Berina and Maha Gangga Rice Fields

Indonesia / Bali • November 19, 2022

On the way to the overrated Tirta Gangga water garden we stopped by the Berina and Maha Gangga rice fields. Maha Gangga is a vast valley with the tarraced rice fields typical of Bali. We watched farmers tending to their fields: collecting rice, scaring away birds - if not for some modern implements like plastic scarecrows, the scene could have been from the 18th century. The Berina rice fields were much less popular and not visible from the road - they only revealed themselves from the air.
